what type of employee, those big silicon valley companies are looking for to hire ?

Question: my degree is a BS in computer sciense from a small private university in california; Do i have a chance to get into one of those well-known compaies; any tips or recommendation please

Answer: I work in the Silicon Valley. Nobody realy cares that much about where you went to school. Expectations may be higher for some schools, but where you went does not automatically mean you will get a job or you will not get a job. Don't stress about that. The information provided about your knowledge, skills and abilities is correct. I would also cite enthusiasm as being very important. No one expects new hires fresh out of school to be the next Einstein. What we want is enthusiasm, hard work ethic and the ability to soak up knowledge on the job. You would need to convey that in order to be hired. Last point - don't focus solely on the big well-known companies. There are a lot more companies in the world besides the ones you can know about. Ever heard of NetApp? EFI? Salesforce.com? Acuson? Probably not. But these are examples of companies that are not well known but are leaders in their areas. Saying you work for IBM, Microsoft, Intel, eBay or Cisco might be cool because they are well-known, but this doesn't mean that this is also a great job. Be sure to clue yourself into the culture and environment of the companies you interview with, then choose the best fit for you - not the name brand. Good luck!
