Is it possible to convert a telephone wire and outlet to an Internet wire and outlet? If so, how?

Question: I'm trying to get an Internet connection to certain room in my house, but it's not possible without tearing apart the house. I already have telephone wires leading up to that room, and I'm wondering if I would be able to change those wires and outlet to use Internet instead.

Answer: Unless your existing phone wiring is already based on CAT5, it can't be done. If you don't like or can't use wireless you may want to try HPNA (Home phone network adaptors) or Powerline adaptors. The first use special adaptors for networking using existing phone lines and the second uses the existing power outlets in the house. At least Netgear and Linksys sell the adaptors.
