absolute value helpp?

Question: can someone help me with this problem and help me with absolute value rules?? i hate math and its not my best. |-42|+(-|43|) and help me with it in general pleasee thanks guys.

Answer: The absolute value is just how far from zero a number is. So, the absolute value of -42, that is |-42|=42 and of 43, that is |43| =43. So |-42|+(-|43|) becomes = 42 + (-43) Plus a negative, that is +(-43) is the same as subtracting so the last equation becomes =42 - 43 which = -1. Basically, take anything that is IN the absolute value bars and make it a positive, keeping any symbol OUTSIDE the absolute value bars and operating as usual.
