Why would Dr. ask for knee xray?

Question: I have alot of health issues, but the two things that feel o.k. on me are my knees. My Dr. knows I've complained of a tearing feeling from my hip to groin (also swelling in groin) and down top of right leg.But he had an xray taken of my knee.I asked why,he said he suspected arthiritis in it.But it doesn't hurt, neither knee does. Why the xray?

Answer: Arthritis will show up on a xray, especially if it is severe. I have arthritis in my back but it doesn't hurt constantly. Most of the time I have absolutely no pain. You can defintely have arthritis without pain. I am no doctor but I have some basic knowledge of anatomy. I don't have the training to interpret an xray, but when I looked at an xray of my back it's pretty obvious something doesn't look right; the edges of my lumbar vertebre look jagged--I think most people would be able to tell it's not 100% normal.
