Can a yellow jacket survive away from its hive?

Question: I noticed a yellow jacket clinging for dear life to the outside of my car window. He stayed there for several miles. I've read they only fly 1000 yards from their hive. Not that I'm sentimental, but does anyone know what would happen to the yellow jacket after it finally flew from my window?

Answer: He was probably really scared cuz you were driving faster then he can fly and he probably freaked out. He'll just fly back to his hive, they're smart. He should be okay.
